Nathan Neil set a new 5-kilometer course record time of 14:49.6 at Eagle Island State Park to win the boys NXR Northwest Regional title in Boise, Idaho. Future University of Washington teammate, Tyrone Gorze, held the previous best at 14:51 from last year's NXR Northwest.
